Welcome to our school. We hope you’ll find time to explore the website and get a taste of some of the exciting things our children experience on a daily basis; as well as being able to access regularly updated information for both parents and children.
Our school provides a rich and interesting curriculum for children from 2 years old to 11. We believe in making education fun as well as meaningful. Academic success is really important to us and is best achieved through a wide, varied curriculum. We believe in making this learning memorable as well as giving children a range of opportunities throughout their time with us, developing their independence, confidence and self-esteem. This enables them to have fun as they develop their knowledge and skills. These opportunities are captured in the Children’s Charter.
The combination of academic success and these wider personal development opportunities are reflecte in the school’s motto: ‘Opening Doors, Enriching Lives’.
We have chosen 5 values which prepare the children both for life in school and our adult lives.
Turn Up: This is the importance of attending school, and on time, to maximise learning. Turning up can also mean participating in the wider life of the school.
Learn: As a school, we have a strong team of experienced, committed staff who want all children to achieve the very best they can. Teachers focus on ways to make new knowledge and skills stick so that children are ready for their next steps.
Care: As citizens, we want children to care about themselves, others and the community. There are many opportunities for the children to have a positive impact on the world.
Persevere: Learning new things is not always easy. We want children to be resilient in the face of challenges and develop a positive mindset. Children are encouraged to be healthy and challenged to do the best they can.
Shine: All children, whatever their backgrounds and interests, have talents. As a school, we celebrate children’s achievements in various fields, including academic, and are proud of the great things they can achieve.
These values are those we want all children at TLCPS to have and they underpin life here through discussions, assemblies and certificates.
Please take time to see what our children get up to at Tanfield by browsing our social media and the website. I am sure there will be much to interest you and if you’ve not visited us yet, please get in touch to come and look round. We have extensive grounds that offer adventure and outdoor play (OPAL) and our buildings are well cared for and very well resourced – it’s an exciting place to be. We’d love to show you all we have to offer.
