100 Books Children Should Read

100 books every child should read/experience before they leave primary school

Last summer a survey was carried out to find out which books, it was felt, all children should read (or have read to them) before the end of their time in primary school. A list was published and we decided to use this to offer our children a really good diet of reading throughout their time in our school. Children are exposed to many different authors and books in lessons but we wanted to look at what they read themselves as well. We divided the list into year groups/classes so that books were more accessible to the children (there is a box of the books in each classroom) but that does not mean that we have to keep strictly to this. Older children can enjoy books written for the younger reader just as much as younger children can enjoy stories being read to them that were written for an older reader. We thought it would be useful to share this list for you. If you are thinking about a book as a present or going to the library to select a book for your child then please consider this list for a good selection of books your child should experience before they are 11 years old.
