Within our Early Years setting, we aim to create a curriculum that really does put the child at the heart of everything we deliver. As an Early Years Team, we love working with young children and supporting them in their first stage of school-based education. We know that every child who comes to our school is truly unique and we celebrate this.
To do this, adults who work in Early Years aim to build positive relationships with children and their special people from home. Working with the subject co-ordinators, we ensure that the curriculum progresses seamlessly from the specific and prime areas of learning in Reception through to KS1 and KS2.
Together we aim to make our learning environments enabling places for children to learn new skills, vocabulary, facts and achieve next steps. More details on our curriculum can be found in the document below and also by clicking on the subject headings which show an integrated approach to the curriculum across the school.
We feel that through our curriculum we are opening doors and enriching the lives of the youngest learners in our school. This academic year we have showcased our exciting, evolving curriculum through a working document (floor book) which all members of the EYFS team have had opportunity to contribute to. This has been continually enhanced and tells our curriculum adventure story with a focus on Early Years outcomes and National Curriculum subjects.
We aim for all children to leave our unit demonstrating the three Characteristics of Effective Learning (these are Playing and Exploring, Active Learning and Creating & Thinking Critically). This will enable them to develop as unique children over their time with us and forms the foundation of our whole-school Growth Mindset ethos.
When children progress to Y1 we are confident that they have had an enriching experience throughout their Early Years journey and that new doors have been opened to them in preparation for the National Curriculum, the next stage in their learning.
